February 2022 Newsletter
COMING MEETING: Note Date change.
February 15, 2022 at 7:00 PM at Schramm Education Center.
Following meeting: March 8, 2022.
Program: Calendar Photo Session.
PRESIDENTS NOTES: Our last meeting was not well attended but that was anticipated given the climate. Inspite of our low turnout, we elected officers for the next year and had an informative meeting.
I volunteered to serve as your club president for one more year. Norm volunteered to work as your secretary / treasurer.
Thanks to Norm for the timely program on bandsaw tuneup. I hope you found the program as useful as I did. I’m going to take a few minutes to give my bandsaw a little love. If you were not able to attend and would like a copy of the handout text, call, or email Norm.
Nebraska commercial hunting legend Ralph Kohler has passed away at the age of 104. Ralph hosted over 50 thousand hunters throughout the USA over his 70 years of commercial hunting and was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors National Hall of Fame in 2006 held in Nashville Tennessee. We wish Ralph good hunting in hunter’s heaven.
Please note there is a date change for our next meeting only. We were asked by the Schramm Staff to make this change to accommodate another activity.
It looks like the Beginning Carver’s seminar is on track for late March.
We have received feedback from the Nebraska Game and Parks (NGP) Commission regarding our
request for a club display case in the Schramm Education Center. This will be on our February meeting agenda.
They have graciously declined our request. We will look for other locations for a display case to put us in the public eye. If you have a suggestion, let us know.
Due to the pandemic, we have decided to ask all our members to be Covid-19 vaccinated, or if not vaccinated, please wear an approved mask during the meetings. This is in accordance with the guidelines for NGP Commission and Schramm Education Center and our concern for the health of our members.
See ya at the meeting… Ron C.

Treasurers report: Norm reported the positive balance in our checking account. He also gave a verbal end-of-year financial report. Our annual expenses exceeded our annual income by $255.87. The deficit is attributed to our calendar costs.
Calendar Project: Ron Pigg reviewed the production schedule for the next edition. We will begin taking photos at the February meeting. We cannot use cell phone photos.
It was proposed we include a collector page in the next calendar edition. This page would recognize the contribution of our collectors in preserving our art form, and will feature some photos of collectible decoys. After discussion, it was agreed to include collectors in the calendar. This would not take the place of the featured artist.
Names suggested were Howard Martin, Nancy Martin, and Stu Maas. We will have further discussion at the February meeting.

2022 Ward World Wildfowl Carving Championships and Art Festival …
The Ward Foundation, the non-profit that operates the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University, and hosts the historic Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition & Art Festival, has made the decision to hold a modified, three-day event — April 22-24, 2022 — in lieu of the regular in-person event at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, MD. Virtual modification of the competition will resemble the 2021 virtual event, with several exciting new components and competition categories, in addition to the return of live-streamed portions of judging.
Over the course of three days, the Ward Foundation will host an exciting line-up of carving classes, workshops, demonstrations, and critiques with world-renowned and award-winning artists. Classes will be announced as they are confirmed, but participants can expect a wide range of subjects to choose from.
More will be announced here and at postings of the Ward Foundation in their web site and in social media.
5th Annual WILDFOWL CARVING MAGAZINE Online Carving Competition.
You can see information on the WFCM competition at the same web site page as the Ward Show guide page (above) or, find complete details at www.wildfowl- carving.com/Contest22. They will be open for entries on May 15, 2022.
