Coming Meeting: Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Papio-Missouri NRD Bldg., Chalco Hills Recreation Area (Enter at 156th and Giles Rd.).
Following Meeting: November 20, 2018.
Program: Antique Decoys of Jack Muskgrove: Presented by Barry Kenny and Brick Paulson.
Presidents Notes: We have secured the NRD building for our meetings well into 2019. By May 2019, we will probably know more about the Schramm Park renovation and whether we will be able to meet there. In the meantime we have a very happy home thanks to the NRD and Randy Lee.
The 2019 CFDCC calendars are out! I want to say thanks to Ron Pigg for his work on this year’s club calendar and his generous donation to the cause.
At the last meeting we discussed the mini decoy contest. It seems the members want the project to continue into the future, However we will probably make some changes in the format in order to eliminate some of the reasons for low participation at this year’s contest. The contest will be a subject on the agenda at this next meeting.
We also discussed subjects for short programs to be give at the meetings.
This year is rapidly coming to an end. Just 2 more meetings in this year so I want to remind you annual dues are due and the election of club officers will occur at the January meeting.
Hope to see you at the meeting… Ron C.
Welcome members and visitors.
Meeting location update.
2019 Calendar project.
Suggestions for short programs.
2019 mini decoy contest.
Meeting room update… The Papio-Missouri NRD building has been scheduled for our meetings through May 2019. Please note the meetings are scheduled for the THIRD Tuesday of each month. We will meet in the board room.
Calendar Project update… The 2019 calendars are out to those who ordered. At this time, we have 10 Version 1 for sale. If you want a few more call Norm Wise. We have sent 14 gift calendars to friends of the club.
Mini decoy Contest… At the September meeting we discussed the mini decoy contest and trade at length. The participation has dwindled to less than half of the participation in the first year.
The original purpose of the contest and trade was discussed.
Possible causes: (As expressed by some of the members).
*Timing. Too close to other competitive or show events such as the Ward World Show.
*Some members may be intimidated by the quality of other entries so they choose NOT to
*Some carvers may not want to trade their work.
*Some carvers may want a different challenge.
*Too many subjects (species).
We will take up the discussion again at this meeting.
Short programs. Ron asked the members present for suggestions of short programs for the meetings. Cliff suggested a program on antique decoys and volunteered to invite Barry Kenny to speak on Jack Muskgrove decoys. Brick volunteered to speak on the subject as well.
A message for the Fliger / Russell family… We received this from the Laura and Jean Fliger.
I don't even know where to begin in thanking you for remembering my Dad in this year's club calendar. He would have been so honored and touched by the memorial. The club meant so much to him!
From the bottom of our hearts, my family and I would like to thank the club for remembering and honoring my Dad, reaching out to us to get the project started, and for donating so many finished copies to us. I have sent the calendars to my Mom, some of my Dad's friends, and my Dad's surviving brothers and sisters. They all loved them!
Ron did a great job and it was very nice meeting him and his wife when they delivered the calendars to me and my husband in person in Denver! We can't thank them enough!
It was so fun to see the other members' carvings in the calendar as well! Such beautiful work and amazing talent!
From The Fliger and Russell Families
