March 2022 Newsletter
COMING MEETING: March 8, 2022 at 7:00PM at Schramm Education Center.
Following meeting: April 12, 2022.
Program: Scrimshaw Art by Dick Zechmann.
PRESIDENTS NOTES: We are rapidly closing in on the date for the Beginning Carving Seminar scheduled for Sunday, March 20. At last count, we have 14 participants signed up.
I urge our instructors to finalize their preparations for their part in the seminar. We can help with audio-visual and teaching materials. Just give us a call.
There is a hands-on part planned for the seminar. We will need to borrow woodburners for this part. If you have one (or 2) we may borrow, contact us as soon as possible.
I want to thank the members who have stepped up to help with this project. As you will recall, we committed to providing the seminar following the renovation of the center. We cannot meet this commitment without the help of our members. This project is our way of recognizing the contribution Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has made to our club and, at the same time, promote our club to prospective members.
The production of the 2023 calendar is underway. At the last meeting, we were able to photograph several carvings and club members. At this time, we have 15 members who have offered their carvings for the project. This year we will include photos of carvings collected by a collector member of the Club.
We will continue to photograph carvings at the meetings. We offer “house calls” to get the photos we need. Call Norm or Ron Pigg if you need us to make special arrangements. We will have more information at the meetings.
The display case discussion is ongoing. We will report more as it comes available.
I hope to see you at the meeting on the 8th.
Ron C.

2022 Ward World Wildfowl Carving Championships and Art Festival …
The Ward Foundation, the non-profit that operates the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University, and hosts the historic Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition & Art Festival, has made the decision to hold a modified, virtual three-day event — April 22-24, 2022 — in lieu of the regular in-person event in Ocean City.
Virtual modification of the competition will resemble the 2021 virtual event, with several new components and competition categories, in addition to the return of live-streamed portions of judging. As the final arrangements come available we will report them here.
The Show Guide has been added to the Ward Foundation website Events Page in a PDF format. You may download a copy at:
https://www.wardmuseum.org/learn-explore/program-calendar/world-championship/
The show guide lists all the divisions, categories, awards, and carver classes for this event. Mail in entries are allowed in most categories.
This year the competition will include a few new categories such as Interpretive Champagne wildfowl and champagne fish.
If you plan to enter, read the guide carefully as there are some new features such as purchase awards. Go to this page for more info.

Several seminars and class are planned for the World Show.
Club Calendar Project: We are working to get photos of all the entries. As stated earlier, we have 15 members committed to putting carvings photos in the 2023 calendar. If you cannot bring your carvings for the photo sessions, call Norm or Ron Pigg for arrangements.
See ya at the meeting on March 8th!
