September 2022 Newsletter
COMING MEETING: Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
Location: Schramm Education Center (SEC).
We will hold the annual Club picnic, service awards, and mini decoy contest and show at this meeting. Note time change!
Following Meeting: October 11, 2022 at 7:00 PM.
President’s Notes: Guess what gang…? Our hot summer break is about to end and we are ready to start the fall round of Club meetings. We hope this finds you well and ready for more wildfowl carving activity.
During our summer break, we have seen some significant Club related events.
The Club numbers have been reduced since May. We remember and honor Foster Woodruff, Lee Weis, Carol Richmond, wife of Ray Richmond and, Lesley Grainger Browne, mother of Bill Browne. We have sent condolences and memorials.
Our 2023 calendar has been published and is ready for distribution. We will give more details on the distribution later in this newsletter.
Our bank account has gone to First Interstate Bank (FIB) due to a merger of Great Western Bank and FIB. After a bit if discussion, we landed a free checking account for community organizations. Our treasury is in good shape for any future expenses.
We are planning for our annual family picnic meeting. In addition to the usual meal, we will hold the annual mini decoy contest and show. This year we will have more carver categories and hopefully more entries.
We will also recognize service of our members to the Club and our art form.
Over the summer, several members have given their talents to the Schramm Park Serenity Garden project. Kelly tells us we should see the results during our September meeting.
The CFDCC Hall of Fame Committee has met to nominate new members to the Hall of Fame. We are looking forward to honoring members who have made significant contributions to the Club and our art form.
We continue to look for ways to attract members to our Club. If you have ideas and suggestions for recruitment, do not hesitate to call or bring your ideas to the meetings.
We are currently discussing some changes to our website. The current website has been in existence for several years and we think its time for some updates. If you have been on our website lately, you will see a few additions. However, we think the website could be a tool for attracting interested persons to our art form and Club. If you have suggestions for changes, don’t be bashful about telling us what you think will work better.
We are sorely in need of suggestions for short programs for our meetings. Please give us your ideas. This is your Club. The programs should benefit our members.
We hope to see you at the September meeting and family gathering.
Ron C.

Since our last meeting…
Calendar project: The 2023 Club calendar will be distributed during the meeting. The cost is $7.00 per calendar. If you plan to pay by check, you can make the check to CFDCC.
We will begin to send out the complementary calendars this month. We have a list of 16 friends and supporters of the Club who will receive our calendar. If you can think of someone or an organization who would use and appreciate this unique calendar, you may add them to the list. The club purchased 20 calendars for this purpose. We also have a few calendars available if you need more than you ordered last spring.
Soon it will be time to begin working on the next edition. We think the calendars are a great tool to promote individual club member’s art as well as the club’s mission and activities. Please consider making your work available for the calendar in 2024. We think this is a great way to show the public the exceptional work we are capable of producing. Most of our members have purchased the calendars as gifts for friends and family. Everyone has told us that the paper printed calendar is highly appreciated and has NOT succumb to the electronic versions. If you have suggestions for improvements, let us know in the near future.
Family Picnic: We are planning a BBQ picnic menu. The meats, buns, sauces, beverages/ice and, table service will be provided by the Club.
The meats will be prepared by Parker’s Smokehouse BBQ.
Menu:
Pulled Pork with buns
Pulled chicken with buns
Parker’s BBQ sauces and condiments
Side dishes by members
Desserts by members
Beverages and ice
Bottled water.
Iced Tea, sweetened and non-sweetened.
Lemonade.
Surprise beverage.
We are asking each member to bring 1 side dish and/or a dessert to share. No, you don’t need to tell us what you will be bringing. We like surprises.
Please RSVP to Norm Wise at [email protected] or 402 320-2947 by September 6. We have invited the Schramm Park personnel to the picnic.
CFDCC Hall of Fame Nominations: Our committee has met and made its 2022 selections. We will announce our elections at the coming meeting and make presentations.
The selection criteria for the HOF were published in the summer (previous) edition of the newsletter and are posted on our website (link below).
Schramm Park Serenity Garden Project… We are hoping the serenity garden has been completed. If it is, we will take a look at our contributions.
Display case update: Don Gabelhouse continues to discuss putting a permanent display case for club members carvings at the Nebraska Game and Parks headquarters or possibly another location. Don tells us the discussions are positive but no decisions have been made to date.
2022 Mini Decoy Contest and Show: Our annual mini decoy show will follow the annual family picnic to be held on Tuesday, September 13 at the Schramm Education Center.
At the May meeting, we decided to have two carver classes. This will be a competitive event with prizes awarded. Our goal is 15 mini decoys for this event.
