January 2023 Newsletter
COMING MEETING: Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 7:00 PM
Location: Schramm Education Center (SEC).
Following Meeting: February 14, 2023 Valentine’s day.
President’s notes: Happy 2023! I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every member a safe, heathy, and prosperous New Year.
I’m grateful 2022 was a little less challenging than the two previous years in terms of the club accomplishing its mission and goals. Let’s hope this year brings us to new goals and achievements.
Last year, we inducted two new members into our Hall of Fame. Brick and Jim are fitting members of the Hall of Fame. An update has been posted to our website.
Last year, we participated in the development of the Schramm Park Serenity Garden. This is a fitting addition to the Park. A big thank you to all who participated by carving the totem blocks.
Our 5th edition to the Club calendar is a perpetuation of another club tradition. A special thanks should go to our members who submitted photos of their work for the calendar, and to Ron Pigg for his work in putting it all together.
At the September meeting we added the 8th mini decoy show and competition to our history.
As we look forward to the new year, we will work on getting a public display case to feature our carvings. We will continue to reach out the public to inform about wildfowl art and carving and collecting; and continue to serve our membership with educational programs and opportunities to grow and show their works.
At this coming meeting, we will elect officers and, kick off the 2023 membership drive, and start the process of assembling the 2024 calendar.
As I finish out my 5th term as president, I want to take this opportunity to thank our members for their support and participation. It has been my honor to serve. It is now time to turn the office over to a new leader.
I hope to see you at the January meeting.

The display case project was discussed. A copy of the Loan Agreement with the State of Nebraska Game and Parks was distributed. This agreement will be required for each carver. It was decided that each carver will insure his or her own carvings. If no insurance is desired, the carver must sign an agreement that holds the Game and Parks Division harmless for loss or damage.
The display cycle is agreed to be for 6 months. We will change the display with new display items twice annually. Display guidelines will be published when the details have been fleshed out.
Club members will schedule a meeting with Jeff Fields to discuss the details of the case, and the necessary agreement details that will need to be worked out.
Norm Wise handed out al list of Godin instructional CDs in our library and asked for suggestions for the addition of new CDs.
A list of Tom Christie’s recent YouTube videos was distributed. Tom is publishing a new series of YouTube videos on decoy carving. He is doing this to promote wildfowl carving to the general public.
These are free on the Youtube channel. Tom would appreciate you feedback and support. Click on this link or copy and paste it in your browser search bar. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbfFDxkmclYF8IJSRr9AgsA
Photos of the Serenity Garden were shown and enjoyed. It was suggested we get a small plaque made that states the carvings were done by CFDCC members. We should make a list of contributors for the history files.
Nebraska Carver’s Retreat is scheduled for February 1st to 4th at Mahoney State Park lodge. The Retreat is supported by Mid-America WoodCarvers Association (MAWA).
Norm Wise will teach a 4 day course on a mini long-tailed duck decoy. Several other woodcarving classes will be held simultaneously. The cost is approximately $300 for the 4 days. This includes a pattern, wood cutout, class fee and, noon meals. Contact Norm for an application and more details.
