October 2023 Newsletter
COMING MEETING: Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 7:00 PM.
Location: Schramm Education Center (SEC).
Program: Paul Sartore on Decoy Collecting. Paul will share his experiences collecting some of the more popular early decoys.
President’s Corner:
Greetings to all! I hope everyone had a great summer but now it’s officially Fall and time to get back into the swing of things. The weather is finally cooling down and the migration will be starting. It’s possible some of you might even be putting your carving talents to work to bring in some waterfowl. If so, I wish you the best of luck.
If you were able to attend the Club picnic, I hope you had as good a time as I did. What more can you ask for than good food and good friends. We had good attendance and I want to thank everyone that participated. There’s one thing I learned and that is that there’s a LOT of work pulling this off. I was tired when it was all done and I have a new appreciation for all those who did it before me.
I hope you all received the email I sent out regarding our featured speaker at the October meeting. Paul Sartore has agreed to come and share some of his experience collecting Mason, Evans, Dodge and Herters factory decoys. He will have several examples as part of his presentation. Be sure and come with questions for Paul.
Again, I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming meeting.
Happy Carving
Kirk

We held the annual Club family picnic at the Schramm Education Center. The unofficial attendance count was 39 members and guests.
Following a meal of pulled pork and chicken supplied by Parker’s SmokeHouse Restaurant and lots of delicious side dishes and refreshments, we held our mini decoy show and door prize gift drawing. Thanks to the members who brought a side dish for us to sample and enjoy.
We want to thank all the members and businesses who provided one or more gifts for the drawing. We gave 26 individual gifts ranging from carving equipment and supplies to art and wine. Eleven contributors gave the gifts.
The mini decoy show was a success. The Open category had 6 fine entries and the Masters Class had 8 entries. We must give a shout-out to our Open Class judges Cliff Hollestelle, Al Thomas, and Bill Browne. Thanks!
The winning entries will be listed in the Show and Competition section.
Ron Pigg distributed the remainder of the 2024 calendars. We have a few extra calendars available for purchase. We will send 19 gift calendars to the friends of the Club no later than November 1.
We are about to begin the process of producing our next club calendar. If you have suggestions for changes or improvements, be sure to voice your opinions. We will have more updates as the year goes forward.
We appreciate the help with set up and cleanup following the picnic.
If you took pictures and want to share, you can email them to Norm Wise. We will put photos in our library and history.
Display case update… Since the last meeting, we have changed the display at Schramm Education Center. We thank Al Thomas, Ned Shipley, Don Gabelhouse, Kirk Pfeffer, and Norm Wise for the loan of their carvings for this display.
